Still a chance to return to 1.5 °C climate goal, researchers say

A global climate analysis by a prominent research institute concludes that it remains technically possible for humanity to limit warming to around 1.5 °C above pre-industrial levels, but only if governments act immediately and with far greater ambition. The roadmap calls for rapid phase-out of fossil fuels, massive expansion of renewables, widespread electrification, and deployment of carbon-removal technologies. It warns that critical tipping points, such as major ice-sheet collapse or rainforest die-back, still pose existential risks, and that current national plans already point to a surge past 2 °C unless action strengthens. The timing is urgent as world leaders gather ahead of the upcoming climate summit. Researchers emphasise that every fraction of a degree matters, and that delaying further will lock in far greater damages and harder adaptation challenges.
